Trek to EBC Day 4 - Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

EBC Trek Day 4 April 13, 2017

Tengboche is home to the largest Gompa (Buddhist Monastery) in the Khumbu region. At 3,867m (12,687 ft) above sea level, Tengboche is surrounded by spectacular peaks and has a striking view of Tawache, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Amadablam.

The hardest part of this trek is leading out of Namche Bazaar about  30 minutes of stair climbing and the 2-3 hours ascend to Tengboche. From Namche to Tengboche should only take a 5-6 hours walk but we trekked slowly keeping in mind the high altitude elevation.

Teresa and I arrived at Tengboche (3867masl) at 4:20 pm healthy and safe. The trek is a gradual climb and has the best view of the towering mountains. However, it is very dusty. The trail is very busy with trekkers, transporters, yaks, and horses. The trail is narrow going around the mountains.

Because the slope is gradually going up, our pace is slow but steady. Regardless it's still felt a long day. We started at 8 am out of Namche Bazaar, the hardest part because we climbed many steps out of the city until we reached the trail.

Himalayan Hotel is so far the best one - 3 star by the Himalayan standard. A few steps from the hotel is Tengboche Monastery. Our group is doing well and healthy. We heard that one member of another group suffered AMS (acute mountain sickness) in Namche. He even climbed the peak yesterday but he has gotten worse. He was rushed to the hospital and the doctor said it is severe so he was transported by helicopter to Kathmandu. He is only in his 30's. We see a lot of helicopters today. We are very much aware of altitude sickness that is why we take our time. Slowly and drinking lots of water... bistare bistare!

Tomorrow we are off to Dingboche 4410 masl. Acclimatization day staying two nights.
